At 98 years old, Tao Porchon-Lynch is the world’s oldest yoga teacher, and an inspiration for people. When Dr. Terri Kennedy, a yoga & meditation teacher, met Tao in a yoga class, she knew she’d found a spiritual soulmate. Now, the two travel the world together to inspire and impact the lives of women across the globe.

Tao Porchon-Lynch explains to athleta.net: “When I started yoga in 1926, “girls didn’t do yoga.” I said, “If boys can do it, I can do it!” Years later, I convinced BKS Iyengar to start teaching women. Now, there are many more women who practice than men – though I love to see men in my classes.”

“Anything is possible. Nothing is impossible. When you wake up every morning say, ‘this is going to be the best day of my life’. And it will be”.

Tao has over 70 years of yoga practice and more than 45 years of teaching yoga students

She has trained and certified hundreds of yoga instructors, since founding the Westchester Institute of Yoga in 1982. Tao has over 70 years of yoga practice and more than 45 years of teaching yoga to students in India, France and the U.S.


Before teaching yoga, Tao had a long and varied career.
 She was an actress in England, France and the USA in the 1940’s and 50’s, wrote screenplays and made documentaries in the 60’s and 70’s. Her life in India encompasses many historic events. There aren’t many people still alive who witnessed first-hand some of the events Tao has.
